Every year I visit Asia and every year I bring back two big suitcases full of treasures, hoping I won’t be fined for overweight luggage at the airport. Yet even as I struggle to drag my bags to my apartment (bags that weigh the same as I do), I know every item I’ve carried across the world is well worth the effort. This is validated by my hard-to-please New York friends. They’re always excited and surprised to see what Asian goodies I’ve brought back.
You would think with a population of 17.3 million Asians in the US, it would be easy to find premium cold-brew tea, kitchen gadgets that are perfect for Asian cooking, savory but not overly-salty black bean sauce, or the latest Japanese facial masks and beauty products. But no! Even after living in New York for fourteen years, a city that has a thriving Chinatown, Koreatown and Little Tokyo, I still can’t find all the authentic ingredients, latest products or coolest inventions I find in Asia.
This is where the idea for my blog started. If I have a hard time finding the best, most current Asian ingredients and products, then, my guess is, you must too. I decided to make things easier for all of us. I’ve traveled the miles, done the research and made the comparisons so you don’t have to. My blog is meant to teach and to inform, to showcase the best and trendiest that Asia has to offer, and to suggest alternatives to products and ingredients readily available in the US. Next time you travel to Asia, you’ll know what to bring back. Next time your friends travel to Asia, you’ll know what to ask them to bring back. And if no trips are planned, I can give you tips on where to get these products from the comfort of your own home (no heavy lifting required).
